AODES break-in and service points: the first 5 hours and the service log

The AODES Canada break-in rule, the service-point schedule from its warranty terms, a printable log, and the 5-hour vs 10-hour first-service conflict to settle with your dealer at delivery.

AODES Canada puts its break-in and service schedule in its warranty terms, and ties your warranty to following it. Missing the first service can end your coverage. This page lays out what the terms say, and the one place where they contradict themselves.

Break-in: the first 5 hours or 160 km

  • For the first 5 hours or 160 km, keep the machine at no more than half throttle and stay away from extreme riding.
  • After that, have it checked the way the dealer did at pre-delivery inspection (PDI), to make sure no parts have worked loose.
  • The warranty terms list skipping the half-throttle break-in as a reason coverage can end. Treat it as a rule, not a suggestion.

In practice: vary your speed, don't tow or plow heavy loads, and don't run it hard in deep snow or mud until break-in is done. Watch the hour meter.

The first-service conflict: 5 hours or 10 hours?

The same warranty document gives two different first-service points:

  • The termination clause says coverage ends if you miss the "first scheduled 5 hour or 160 km maintenance".
  • The service-point list starts at "10 hours or 300 km: oil change, PDI check, grease A-arms, clean air filter".

Our advice: book the first service for when break-in ends, at 5 hours or 160 km. Ask the dealer to write on the work order which checks and changes were done, and keep that copy. Doing it early costs you a little. Being told you were late could cost you your coverage. Your owner's manual may settle it, so check it at delivery.

The service points

Interval (whichever first)What AODES Canada lists
10 hours or 300 kmOil change, PDI check, grease A-arms, clean air filter
35 hours or 1,100 kmOil change, PDI check, grease A-arms, replace air filter
60 hours or 1,900 kmOil change, PDI check, grease A-arms, replace air filter
85 hours or 2,700 kmOil change, PDI check, grease A-arms, replace air filter
110 hours or 3,500 kmOil change, PDI check, grease A-arms, replace air filter
Every 25 hours or 800 km after thatRepeat the same steps, replacing the air filter each time
Every 1,600 kmReplace fuel filter, differential fluid and transmission fluid

Routine maintenance is at the owner's cost, not covered by the warranty. The intervals here are from the warranty terms. Your owner's manual may add model-specific items (belt checks, valve clearance, coolant), so follow it as well. The E-TrailCross has no engine oil or air intake, so ask the dealer for its electric-specific schedule.

Keep a log

AODES Canada says to keep records of all maintenance in case they're requested during a claim. For each service, write down:

  • date, hours and kilometres
  • who did the work, and the invoice or work-order number
  • what was done, and the part numbers (genuine AODES parts; see below)

Keep paper copies, and photos of them somewhere other than the machine.

Genuine parts and modifications

The terms say coverage ends if non-genuine AODES replacement parts are used, or if the machine has modifications beyond "non-interfering cosmetic parts". Damage caused by non-AODES attachments and accessories isn't covered either. Before you fit a plow, tracks, a lift or aftermarket wheels, ask the dealer in writing how it affects your warranty.

Severe conditions

AODES Canada tells owners to avoid sand and salt, which wear parts faster. Damage from submersion in water, mud or sand isn't covered. After a muddy or salty day, wash the machine, check the air box and breathers, and grease it. If you ride in those conditions regularly, think about servicing it more often than the chart says.
